RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is the leading cause of lower respiratory tract disease worldwide in healthy children 2 to under 5yo and children with underlying medical conditions.  The infection produces cold-like symptoms including fever, runny nose, coughing, wheezing, and/or difficulty breathing. In most cases, the symptoms persist for a week or two and then go away. In some cases, the burden of deep respiratory congestion (bronchiolitis) requires hospitalization for more specialized care. In these cases, the infection can be life threatening.

Currently, there is only one FDA approved RSV vaccine available for children under 2 years and it is in widely short supply.  There is still a need for a vaccine for children over 2.  NCR is currently studying one that is in the investigational testing phase. The study will determine how well this vaccine stimulates the child’s immune system to generate antibodies against the virus.
