| Brief Summary: |
Medical scientists have determined that lowering the bad cholesterol (called LDL-cholesterol) in the blood with medications directly lowers the risk of heart attacks and strokes. In fact, the more LDL-cholesterol is lowered, the more the risk of heart attacks and strokes are lowered. For this reason, experts are recommending that people with a moderate to high risk of having a heart disease or stroke lower their LDL-cholesterol as much as they can. The best medication for lowering LDL-cholesterol is one of the “statin” medications. The statins are well tolerated, very effective and safe medications. But for many people a statin alone is not enough to achieve adequate LDL-cholesterol lowering. And so, there are many new medications being developed which can be given with a statin to safely lower LDL-cholesterol more in the hope that doing so will further reduce risk. We are currently working with 6 of these medications and invite you to call us to learn more about these studies and to determine which one is best for you. |
